DTSG Reiterates Commitment to Strengthen Security in Delta

The Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security across the state through strategic collaboration with security agencies and key stakeholders.

The State Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Hon. Peter Uviejitobor gave the assurance when he led the management team of the ministry on a courtesy visit to the Department of State Services (DSS), Delta State Command in Asaba.

Speaking at the meeting, he noted that the administration is committed to working closely with security agencies to sustain peace and stability.

He stressed that the ministry plays a mediatory role between oil companies and host communities, ensuring that operations are carried out in compliance with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and local content law.

Uviejitobor emphasized the need for synergy in addressing security challenges, particularly in oil-producing communities.

“We are here to synergize with your agency and other security agencies in the state to promote peaceful coexistence, and create an enabling environment for economic growth,” he said.

Responding, the State Director of Security, Department of State Services, Delta State Command, PN Afunanya, fsi, said that the agency is mandated to prevent crises and safeguard lives, property, and critical infrastructure.

Afunanya emphasized that proactive measures and intelligence-driven operations remain central to achieving lasting peace in the state.

He commended the Delta State Government for its grassroots approach to governance, noting that it has contributed significantly to the relative peace currently enjoyed in the state.

He also highlighted the importance of Delta State to the Nigeria’s economy due to its role in oil production.

Afunanya underscored the need for continuous community education, sensitization and engagement to curb pipeline vandalism and other acts capable of disrupting production, stressing the need for all parties to work collectively in resolving security challenges and ensuring the safety of Deltans.
