Akpodiete Foundation Continues Philanthropic Work, Empowers Widows in Delta

The Olotu and Ekuogbe Rowland Akpodiete Foundation, alongside family members, celebrated the 31st remembrance of Late Chief Ekuogbe Rowland Akpodiete with a widow empowerment program on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

The event, held at Iwhreko Community Town Hall, Ughelli, brought together dignitaries, including Olorogun Miller Uloho, Most Senior Chief of Ughelli Kingdom, and Chief Morrison Obaseki Olori.

In his welcome address, Hon Dr. Olotu Akpodiete JP, Executive Director of the foundation, said the foundation were committed to continuing their late father’s legacy through impactful community initiatives, focusing on sustainable development, education, healthcare, Security and empowerment programs.

Over 100 widows from Ughelli North, South, and Udu Local Government Areas of Delta State received cash, gifts and wrappers as part of the empowerment program.

Dr. Akpodiete described his late grandfather as a trailblazer because he was the first qualified lawyer of Ughelli descent, principled and humble man.

The Special Guest of Honor, Olorogun Miller Uloho, praised Late Chief Ekuogbe’s contributions to Iwhreko, Ughelli Kingdom, Delta State, and Nigeria, saying his legacy was worth emulating.

Other dignitaries, including Chief Dr. Morrison Obaseki Olori, urged the children to remain united and promote their late father’s good works.

Olorogun Osia Akpodiete presented Life Achievements Awards to Olorogun Miller Uloho and Olorogun Morrison Obaseki Olori for their outstanding service to humanity.

Beneficiaries expressed delight at the gesture, praying for the family’s continued success. Dr. Akpodiete assured that the empowerment program would be an annual event, benefiting other areas of society.

Also,the second edition of the novelty football match in honor of Late Chief Ekuogbe Rowland Akpodiete was held at Clifford Cassidy Play Ground, popularly known as General Field,

The match, played between the children and grandchildren of the late chief, ended in a 1-1 draw.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Olotu Akpodiete said the novelty match was aimed at encouraging and developing the skills of young footballers, and would be an annual event.

Chief Mrs. Grace Akpodiete and Olorogun Osia Akpodiete presented cash gifts to the captains of the teams, in a show of support for the young players.
