Oborevwori Gets Nod For Ensuring Peace In Oil Host Communities

Delta State Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Hon. (Chief) Peter Uviejitobor recently commended the State Governor, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, for ensuring peace, unity and enabling environment in oil host communities in the state

Uviejitobor gave the commendations while outlining the Ministry’s successes within two years of Governor Oborevwori’s administration at the Delta State Secretariat, Asaba.

Chief Uviejitobor revealed that the Ministry’s mandate was to mediate between oil host communities and companies where there are differences to forestal crises

He maintained that with the Petroleum Industry Act, (PIA), the Ministry was able to identify, and resolve disputes, saying the PIA Act serves as a guide on how oil companies. operate and remit their quota to the oil host communities.

He said, “the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) has helped to guide how oil companies should treat oil communities where they work, according to the PIA law, oil companies should remit 3 percent of their earnings to help the local communities”

The Commissioner highlighted some mediations the Oil and Gas Ministry has intervened in the past when there were challenges between oil host communities and the companies

The Oil and Gas Commissioner, however, disclosed that the Ministry is looking forward to roll out skill acquisition in oil host communities to engage them rather than resorting to oil theft.

In the same vein, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Oil and Gas, Mr. Frank Omoko, said there was ongoing campaign on the dangers of damaging oil pipelines, stressing that such action reduces oil production.

According to him, “the Ministry have organised a stakeholders meetings to sensitize the public against the dangers of pipelines vandalisation”

” That sensitisation which the government of Delta state have promoted for the past administration up to this present administration has helped the reduction of pipelines vandal”

” That alone is telling the people the dangers associated with pipelines vandalisation. We are trying our best to reduce that aspect of it and that has helped to increase oil production” he said.
